December 15. Elizabeth charges Davison to accompany M. de la Mothe Fenelon, and accredits him to James VI. to assist Bowes, her ambassador in Scotland, to counterbalance the influence of France.
1583. January 17. The Duke of Anjou, baffled in his attempt to gain possession of the principal towns in Flanders, flies to France.
